In the field we carry out all farming chores with respect for the natural environment, so part of the field is organic farming and the rest is certified as "integrated production". In total our own olive groves amount to 2,015 hectares.
Organic farming: Sustainability and balance
What is organic farming?
Organic agriculture is a modern growing system based on the optimal use of natural resources (the soil, the plants, the water and the animals) without using synthetic chemical products or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Thus we respect the environment and preserve the soil fertility.
The best tool in organic farming is prevention and for this reason we promote the proper development of plants so that they resist in a natural way to plagues and diseases.
Origin of organic farming
There are many models for organic farming that offer producers distinct technological alternatives even if, in the end, these models share the same general goals.
The concept of organic farming began to take shape in the land reforms that took place in Germany in the late 19th century and also as an effect of the Industrial Revolution that changed the agricultural sector. But the origin of modern organic farming is usually placed in Austria in 1924, when Rudolf Steiner, philosopher, scholar, educator and artist founded the movement of biodynamic agriculture.
Organic production is legally regulated in Spain since 1989, the year the Regulation of Generic Name "Organic farming" and its regulatory board were created.
Organic Farming methods
Obtaining healthy food, of a higher nutritional quality and without the presence of synthetic chemical substances.
Protect the environment (the biodiversity, the biological cycles and the biological activity in the soil).
Promote rural development and constitute as an agro-system socially, ecologically and economically sustainable
Integrated production farming
Respect for the environment, safety and quality.
What is Integrated Production farming?
Integrated production is a method of producing in a sustainable and reasonable way, based on replacing traditional methods by practices and technologies that are sustainable and respect the environment.
Origin of Integrated Production Farming
In 1997 a group of investigators met in Ovronnaz (Switzerland) and formulated the "Ovronnaz Statement" where they defined the concept of Integrated Production in fighting the massive use of synthetic pesticides that was common in Europe and California in the 1950s, as well as a reasonable handling of the agro-system components: climate, soil and plant.
Goals of Integrated Production Farming
Integrated Production is about defining an integrated sense of management of the whole of an agricultural estate – and it sets as goals to achieve:
A high quality production controlling all intervening factors
To preserve and protect the environmentby using practices that respect the environment, taking into account the need to maintain the biological balance and optimizing the use of natural resources.
To ensure animal health and well being.
To achieve a better economic viability and reduce production costs.
